Drinking during pregnancy

It is no surprise that alcohol is bad for health, but when you are pregnant, your baby is first that the rap ...

What are the effects of alcohol on your baby?

When you drink a glass of wine while you are pregnant, alcohol passes into your blood, before passing through the placenta to find directly ... in the blood of your baby! During the first quarter, the risk of birth is very important because this is when the organs are formed. The absorption of alcohol at this stage may then lead to fetal alcohol syndrome, resulting in malformations of the face.

Five or six glasses a day are enough to cause this syndrome. Alcohol is also responsible for genital and heart malformations, and mental disorders. When after the first trimester your baby is formed, does not believe that you can let go, because alcohol's harmful to the growth of nerve cells by altering the psycho-motor development of your baby. It also increases the risk of premature delivery and low weight at birth.

And a drink from time to time?

Experts do not know if there is a threshold below which alcohol is not harmful to your baby. The vast majority of them recommends to abstain. Just as we do not know the risks associated with large excess during an evening, it is best to avoid this kind of attitude, even if you do not drink for six months.

Abstention is therefore the best way to be sure of doing no harm to your baby.
