Eating sugar increases the risk of cancer

Women who eat lots of sugar have a higher risk of suffering from breast cancer, according to a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in December 2008. In a statement, Dr. Servan-Schreiber believes that this study confirms "the role of food too sweet in the occurrence of certain cancers."

The U.S. study found that women who eat lots of sugars are more likely than others to suffer from breast cancer. Published in the December issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the study reviewed over 93,000 cases of women. In conclusion, there is a link between high levels of insulin, a hormone to regulate blood sugar in the blood and the risk of breast cancer.

Dr. Servan-Schreiber, a specialist in the fight against cancer through nutrition, said in a statement that the study confirms the "role of the food too sweet in the occurrence of certain cancers. It stresses "the need to communicate with patients already diagnosed with cancer about the importance of adopting a diet low glycemic index, to reduce the secretion of insulin and its harmful influence on the growth of cancer cells."
