Quarantine is marked mainly by hormonal imbalances, which occur gradually and announce the arrival of menopause. This change is often poorly understood and can be badly lived, or at least be a source of questions.
These changes are associated with a progressive decrease of the operation of our ovaries. Throughout our lives called "genital activity" in each menstrual cycle, developed a "follicle" which is formed within the oocyte is released into the fallopian tubes during ovulation. The follicle cells secrete the female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. We are born with a fixed stock of follicles in both ovaries. Like all of our organs, ovaries and follicles grow older. Menopause occurs when our stock is depleted follicles (follicles spontaneously degenerated or have been "used" during the ovulation cycles): stop ovulation, the hormone secretions will dry up, the cycles and the rules lost. But menopause does not occur abruptly and there is a period of several years during which the ovaries are working less well, hormone levels are fluctuating cycles and periods become irregular. Early warning symptoms of menopause can then appear: first hot flashes, irritability, fatigue, insomnia, weight gain ... This period is called perimenopause. The "real" menopause happens around age 50, will be confirmed after a year off complete rules.
Also during this period that our cardiovascular risk begins to increase (our estrogen, which has a positive effect on rates of good and bad cholesterol and blood vessel walls, protected us well until the perimenopause), and classical risk factors should be taken very seriously: pill, smoking, hypertension, lipid levels are too high, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity, heredity.
The identification by the physician of the "perimenopause" is an essential step medical monitoring of women 40 years.
