Strapping

Normally, the cervix is hard and closed during the entire pregnancy. It changes during childbirth, softens, clears, opens and lets go and the child. Sometimes, the cervix softens before the term in the second trimester of pregnancy. This can cause premature birth.

Strapping: why?
The hoop can be remedied with a gap or an incompetent cervix. The strapping is for women who have given birth prematurely or suffered a miscarriage late (second trimester) to prevent a recurrence.

The strapping is what?
These tie the neck of the uterus with a nylon thread and tighten. The hoop can be made between 12 and 16 weeks of gestation (approximately 14 weeks of pregnancy).
A little later, when there is a threat of miscarriage late (shortened cervix between 15 and 24 weeks of gestation), this technique can also be indicated. This is called banding "hot" or strapping "late" to try to save the pregnancy.

What happens?
The procedure takes between five and twenty minutes and is performed under general anesthesia or an epidural, by natural means.
The nylon thread was withdrawn to the 37th week of gestation, before the first contractions. This procedure often requires a short hospital stay of 48 hours.
